Stage Left of Georgetown Community Theatre’s

production of

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Adapted from the book by L. Frank Baum

Produced by special arrangement with Classics on Stage! of Chicago.

Saturday, February 25 at 10 am.

Cooke Memorial on the Georgetown College Campus

Jackson St., Georgetown, Ky

Open to all kids under age 18.

Note: All participants must be able to take direction and conduct

themselves responsibly on and off stage in a large group.

· All Participants should come with a short monologue or reading prepared.

· Younger children are welcome to recite familiar nursery rhymes or sing songs.

· Anyone interested in nonspeaking roles or technical positions should attend as well.

Please note: This particular production is based on the original book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. While some details have been changed, it is much, much closer to the book than the MGM film, and it is not a musical. Dorothy will wear silver shoes, and the witch will not be green. All costumes and scenery will be based upon original illustrations from the classic. See examples here.

Further considerations

Schedule

Please look over the schedule below and record ALL possible conflicts on your audition form.

While we do try to schedule rehearsals around a minimal number of conflicts, actors with many conflicts will not be cast in lead/speaking roles.

No actor with conflicts May 20-27 will be cast in a speaking role.

Understudies will be cast for all leads.

Any actor with a speaking role will be replaced by an understudy after two unexcused absences.

· Rehearsals March 11-May 7 – Sundays 4-6pm, Mondays 5-7pm (No rehearsal Easter Sunday)

· Sunday, May 13, 4-6pm (Mother’s Day) – we will have rehearsal this day unless we are so far ahead in rehearsals that we feel able to take the day off.

· Monday, May 14 – 5-8pm

· Wednesday, May 16 – 5-8pm

· Thursday, May 17 – 5-8pm

· Sunday, May 20 – 3-8pm (actors) 1-8pm (tech crew) - tech rehearsal, a long day! Will try to be finished before 8pm!

· Monday, May 21 – 5-8pm

· Tuesday, May 22 – 5-8pm

· Wednesday, May 23 – 5-8pm

· Thursday, May 24 – 5-8pm

· Friday, May 25 – 8am-3pm (possible school performances, these aretypically excused absences from school)

· Friday, May 25 – Opening Performance (call 5:30pm, curtain 7pm)

· Saturday, May 26 – Performance (call 5:30pm, curtain 7pm)

· Sunday, May 27 – Performance and Strike (Cast party picnic/optional 12:30pm, Call 1:30pm, curtain 3pm, strike and clean-up after show)

Costs

Required (scholarships are available for these costs, please inquire with Director)

· Scripts - $4 per script (required for those with speaking roles, encouraged for nonspeaking roles, families with several nonspeakers may share as convenient)

· Costume – each person is responsible for the design and building of his/her own costume. Guidelines will be presented during the first cast meeting on March 11. This year’s theme is Recycling, therefore, costumes may be made of any recycled material. This is a unique opportunity to create free (or nearly free) pieces, buy at Goodwill, or borrow. All participants are encouraged to spend as little as possible on costumes.

Optional

· The cast usually orders production t-shirts. These will run $8-$10 dollars. Purchase is completely optional.

· There may be a few fundraising opportunities (selling stars during production, cast adoptions, concessions, etc.) Purchase of any of these items is completely optional.

"RADIO GALS" is a musical by Mike Craver and Mark Hardwick, set in the late l920's, concerning an enterprising woman, Hazel Hunt, of Cedar Ridge, Arkansas who, upon her retirement as the town music teacher, receives a Western Electric 500 watt radio transmitter and begins broadcasting as radio station "WGAL". What comes out over the local airwaves is a small town diary, calendar, and stream of consciousness -- sort of a Molly Bloom crossed with the Farmers' Almanac -- with generous dollops of singing and playing by Hazel's "all-girl" orchestra, "the Hazelnuts", and that lovesick flapper Gladys Fritts. However, due to Hazel's habit of "channel wandering", her broadcasts are not always so local. And listeners as far away as Montreal and Manhattan can testify. Enter O. B. Abbott, Federal Radio Inspector, intent on rescuing the airwaves from gypsies like Hazel Hunt. However, Mr. Abbott soon falls prey to the blandishments of the Hazelnuts, and the Shangri-La that is Cedar Ridge. Inspector Abbott, it turns out, also has a fine tenor voice, plays a mean accordion, and in the course of things falls for the flapper... "

Actors wanting to audition for “Radio Gals” should bring a headshot (someone will be there to take headshots if you don't have one) and resume of their previous experience. Also, please come prepared with 16 bars of a song. A piano accompanist will be present. If you play an instrument, please bring it with you. Cold readings will be done from the script. Director would like ages 16 and older.

Character Descriptions and voice requirements

Hazel Hunt: Retirement age, matronly. Shrewd, enthusiastic, perhaps a bit dotty, but definitely in control. Hazel is the town’s beloved music teadher and patroness of the arts. (voice: low female range)

Gladys Fritts: Middle aged. More dramtic than Hazel, high strung and excitable. Gladys is a small town gal who yearns for greater horizons. She considers herself artistic and sophisticated. She possesses a deep love of poetry, and has studied voice. (voice: lyric soprano)

O.B. Abbott: Bureaucratic and self important, yet underneath he has the soul of a poet. Abbott is a “closet: musician and singer. (voice: tenor or light baritone. Preferably plays some accordion (or another portable instrument)

America: Breezy, sunny, open young woman. Unsophistacated yet enthusiastic. (voice: soprano with a country belt. Preferably can play violin, but not a must)

Rennabelle: Cousin to America. Somewhat more tomboyish and sophisticated. (voice: alto, with belt.)

Azilee Swindle: Elderly, well-dressed lady. Friend and associate of Hazel’s. (Voice: midrange )

Mabel Swindle: Elderly, well-dressed lady. Friend and associate of Hazel. (voice: midrange, preferably plays piano, but not a must)

The roles of Azelee and Mabel may be played by men. Adjustments may be made with instruments. If you sing but don't play an instrument please come audition for a main role anyway!!!

Non Speaking roles available for musicians:

If you are interested in being in the play as a band member only, please come with intruments and prepared number. You may also be asked to play a piece from the play. This play takes place in the late 1920's.

The Board of Directors of Georgetown Community Theatre invites you to join them for their first annual Holiday Fundraiser! The event will be from 7:30 to 10:30 PM on December 10, 2011. We will enjoy cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and some wonderful entertainment from some of our best local musicians.

Did you know that we put on 4 to 5 shows a year, right here in your community? Did you know that we have a youth program called Stage Left? Did you know that all of our auditions are open to the public? Want to learn more and help grow the Arts right here in Georgetown? Come join us on December 10 for an evening of fun and music.

In the surprising twists that follow. “The Psychic” entangles Adam in a hilarious murder mystery that you won’t want to miss.

Jeff Caldwell (Johnny Bubbles) Jeff was born and raised in Louisville. At age 19, he joined the Navy and served 4 years. Jeff has lived in Georgetown since 2004 with sons Connor & Ryan. He has participated in several productions with Georgetown Community Theatre in the past 3 years, most recently “TIM: A Christmas Story” last December, and “Oliver” this past summer. Jeff is a GCT board of director’s member, and enjoys the friendships that have come along with these productions and especially the time he spends with Connor and Ryan.

Marisa West (Assistant Director) - Theatre seemed a logical progression as I hail from a long line of circus folk.... not really. My parents introduced me to theatre at young age and I've been hooked ever since. After a gap in productions I performed in GTC's production of "Love Letters" and "Oliver !". "The Psychic" is the first play I've participated in a strictly behind the scenes capacity and it has been a wonderful and educational experience.

Randy Hall (Roy Benson) Randy is happy to perform again in his home town. Having just finished a four week run of The 39 Steps at Studio Players, Lexington, he is looking forward to a show where he does not have to change costumes or accents

Katee Holznagel (Rita Malone) Katee is delighted to be making her first appearance on stage for the Georgetown Community Theater. She most recently appeared as Catharine Holly in The Garden District at Studio Players in Lexington. Hailing from the Midwest, she has also appeared in Uncommon Women and Others, Our Town, Little Women, and Found A Peanut to name a few shows.

Breck Reliford (Det. Norris Coslow) Breck is a 20 year resident of Georgetown. He cut his acting teeth pretending to like all of his daughter's boyfriends throughout the years. Breck has appeared in productions of Meet Me at My Locker, Sugar, If A Man Answers, Don't Drink The Water, Greater Tuna, Love Letters, and the current production of The Psychic

Sasha Halvorsen (Laura Benson) Sasha is excited to be making her return to GCT's stage with The Psychic. She recently graduated from Eastern Kentucky University, having appeared on EKU's stage in The Taming of the Shrew (Bianca), Cabaret, Beauty and the Beast, and as Becca in Rabbit Hole. Her favorite role to date was portraying film legend Katharine Hepburn in Tea at Five, produced by Royal Springs Theatrical Society. Sasha hopes to one day be a performing member of a regional Shakespeare company

Justin Miller (Adam Webster) Justin has been with GCT since 2001. Some of the roles he has played in the past include: Marcellus Washburn in Music Man, Neville Landless in the Mystery of Edwin Drood, the Cat in Honk!, and Schroeder in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Aside from acting, he also currently records and performs with 2 bands out of Central Kentucky as a lead guitarist and singer. Justin most recently appeared in Forever Plaid with the Studio Players, Lexington.

Scott Turner (Director)-has appeared on stage in the GCT productions of Edwin Drood, God’s Favorite, Arsenic and Old Lace, Babes in Arms, and directed the GCT productions of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Agnes of God, and Greater Tuna. He is on the board of Studio Players, Lexington, and directed their 2011 summer musical, Forever Plaid. Other projects include Snoopy, Deathtrap, The Philadelphia Story, A Tuna Christmas, and the Unexpected Guest.

As part of the city of Georgetown's ARTS WEEKEND Oct. 7, 8 and 9, Georgetown Community Theatre will be performing an encore of A.R. Gurney's Love Letters. GCT invites you to join us for this "pay what you can event" on October 8th at 7:00pm.

Bruce and Cary Williams are reprising their roles as Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner. Under the direction of Rachel Nipper, GCT produced two runs of the acclaimed, Pulitzer prize nominated, Love Letters this past February. A different set of actors were featured in each of the six performances. Bruce and Cary portrayed the couple in our matinee finale. This adult Reader's Theatre was chosen by the director for its eloquence, style, and depth of emotion. All of the previous casts of Love Letters received rave reviews from the audiences. Many of whom commented on the depth of the script which stays with you well after the curtain closes.

Love letters, first produced in 1989, is a popular performance piece among many actors. For an actor, it is rewarding because he is able to truly express himself artistically by reading the letters written, it is the actor's voice that creates the story and takes the listener to a place where imagery is individualized and each member of the audience has a different view of the characters and story. The actors do not rely on a set or props to tell a tale and make it move for the audience. Its the actors themselves that move the audience through this crescendo and decrescendo of emotion.

This production does contain mature language and situations.

There is no set ticket price, we just ask for a donation of your choice when you come see this one night only show. Also, GCT will be drawing a winner for two tickets to our Fall show, The Psychic.

Adam becomes entangled in a hilarious murder mystery with Pirandello-esque twists."

The director is looking for actors to portray the following characters. Note the ages are of the characters not the actors.

Adam Webster - A mystery writer in his early thirties

Director Pitch Day, Oct. 11, 2011!

The Georgetown Community Theatre Board of Directors would like to extend an invitation, to anyone interested in directing and pitching a show for our 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 seasons, to contact us for an appointment on Oct. 11, 2011. Our GCT season traditionally consists of the following:

Summer Musical- To be performed in July. We look for family oriented shows, preferably that include a larger cast.

Fall Show - Typically performed in October, a smaller production suitable for an audience of various ages.

December Show - Family oriented, holiday themed productions. Mid December.

Winter Show - We reserve this time for productions that tend to be experimental in nature or for mature audiences. Mid to late February.

Spring/Stage Left productions - Stage Left is the Youth Theatre wing of GCT under the direction of Dr. Jeannie Gambill. We reserve the spring performance for the youth of our community to learn about the processes of theatre. These productions, under Dr. Gambill's guidance serve to teach all aspects of production including terminology,character development, theatrical protocol,costuming, publicity, stage management and technical processes. The experience culminates in the youth creating a show to perform for our community.

Production Pitches include, but are not limited to, a synopsis, overall artistic view including set and costuming, proposed budget, and casting details. When making appointment, please provide title of show and publisher. You will be emailed a budget worksheet to be completed and included with your pitch. Hazel C. Hunt received a transmitter as a retirement gift and station WGAL was born in
Cedar Rapids, Arkansas. A wacky quintet of singer/musicians gather daily in her parlor to
set hearts thumping and toes tapping with rib tickling songs, homey chat and plugs for a
rejuvenating tonic that owes its kick to the still out back. Hazel's habit of wave jumping to
find a clear channel brings a government inspector to shut her down. She discovers the
stage struck accordion playing tenor beneath his bureaucratic facade and he is quickly
ensnared in musical and romantic shenanigans. Twenty one original songs performed with
thematic props produce the zany hilarity you expect from the creators of Pump Boys and

Georgetown Community Theatre is pleased to invite you to its 2011 Summer Musical, “Oliver!” Directed by Debra Kumar, this is the well known musicalization of the Dickens novel, following Oliver Twist, a young workhouse orphan. After being befriended by an older boy, Jack Dawkins, “better known among me more ‘hintimate’ friends as the Artful Dodger,” he gets caught up with an unruly gang of thieves and pickpockets who are led and educated in the art by the old criminal Fagin.

Set in Victorian England, steeped in poverty and social-class disparity, with onstage abuse and murder, this production may not be appropriate for all ages. Parental judgment is required.

This British musical premiered in 1960, enjoying a long run. A successful Broadway production opened in 1963 with further tours and revivals. It was made into a musical film in 1968, and a recent London revival played from December 2008 to January 2011.

Enhancing your theatrical experience will be the choreography skills of local dance instructor Ashley Rickman and the musical direction of Georgetown College student Chuck Harris. Memorable musical numbers include: “Food, Glorious Food,” “Consider Yourself at Home,” “Where Is Love,” “Pick a Pocket or Two,” “Oom-Pah-Pah,” and “I’d Do Anything for You.”

Rehearsals began early in May with a cast of 58 with some playing multiple roles. These are members of your community coming together with many other crew and support persons to bring Georgetown Community Theatre’s artistic vision to life.

Stage Left of GCT Summer Theatre Camps for Youth

IN THE WINGS

This week-long camp is designed for young actors to begin exploring the art of creative dramatics and to introduce them to the theatre. In the Wings is designed to foster the habit of creative thinking in elementary school age children, while providing them with fun opportunities to learn about the art of performance. Students will participate in guided improvisation activities, construct their own puppets and collaborate with one another to complete their very own puppet show, and create their own unique theatrical masks. The week concludes with the presentation of a play, in which each child will be given the opportunity to participate, and parents, friends, and family will be invited to attend.

TAKING THE STAGE

Taking the stage is a week long musical theatre intensive designed for teens with any amount of theatrical experience. During this program, participants will gain insight into the world of theatrical performance through tutorials in character development, improvisation, ensemble building, stage makeup techniques, costuming, and musical theatre. Students will learn music and choreography, while participating in scene work and preparing monologues.The camp will culminate in a unique follies style performance, providing students with an opportunity to test out their new skills.

The GCT 2011-2012 season includes 7 productions and a touring ensemble performing up to 5 additional shows! We are very excited and pleased to offer these productions to Georgetown and our surrounding communities. GCT would not be where it is today without the continued support of our theatre friends and family like you!

Georgetown Community Theatre is a federally, 501(c)3, recognized charitable organization. GCT is ran entirely by volunteers like yourselves. It is our volunteers that make all these shows possible and we couldn't do it without you! About the show:

Other singing and non-singing roles are available. This is expected to be a huge cast with additional
speaking and non-speaking roles. We need to cast the workhouse and Fagin’s gang of boys, a whole village of common folk, and genteel society. Younger children can be cast with an adult,so make this a whole family memory for the summer.
Audition Information:
Audition forms may be downloaded from www.georgetowncommunitytheatre.org (after 6:00pm, April 25). Please print and bring completed form to auditions.
A few applications will be available at auditions. Resumes may be attached to the form but are not necessary.
Auditions will consist of cold reading from the script. Please prepare a brief vocal piece of your choice. A musical number from the show will be taught at auditions and you may be asked to perform this piece before panel.
Auditions will take place 6:00-9:00 PM Thursday April 28 and Friday April 29. Audition registration will close at 8:15 pm both dates

About Stage Left: Stage Left of Georgetown Community Theatre is a teaching program, and while we have always ended up with a production that we can all be proud of, the production is simply the reward for time and creativity contributed to the process. There are a great number of roles in the production and we try to cast everyone. That does not mean everyone is cast in a speaking role, but each person will be included on stage or behind the scenes in some way. Students will be asked to participate in publicity, costume design, and set design. The main goal being a fully youth run production, including operation of lights and sound and stage management.

That being said, we will need a great number of adult volunteers. The parents of children who are cast will be expected to volunteer at least six hours during the course of rehearsal and the production. We need people to help supervise kids both during rehearsals and performances, people to help build and paint sets, people to help with makeup, costume construction, and many other tasks. We want all the children to have a great experience, and it takes a village. The directors and the producer will be busy during rehearsal coaching actors and coordinating all the aspects of the production, and cannot be expected to know where all members of a cast are at all times. Before your child auditions, please make sure you are able to honor this commitment.

Other important dates:
First cast meeting and read through: March 6 from 4-7 PM
Rehearsals: Begin March 21 on Sundays from 4 -7 and Mondays and Thursdays from 5-7
Dress Rehearsal Week: May 15-19 (we will rehearse daily and all cast members must attend)

The Georgetown Community Theatre Board of Directors would like to extend an invitation to anyone interested in directing and pitching a show for our 2011-2012 season. Our season traditionally consists of the following:
Summer Show - to be performed in July. We look for family oriented shows, preferably musicals that include a larger cast. We currently have licensing in place for The King and I or Oliver.

However, we are open to any shows that would fit. GCT prefers our summer show to include a cast that utilizes the talents of our youth in the community as they are on summer break from school and enjoy the learning experience that theatre productions offer.

Fall/Oct. Show - Typically a smaller production suitable for an audience of various ages.

December Show - Family oriented, Holiday productions

Winter/February Show - We reserve this time for productions that tend to be experimental in nature or for mature audiences.

Spring/Stage Left Players productions - Stage Left is the Youth Theatre wing of GCT under the direction of Dr. Jeannie Gambill. We reserve the spring performance for the youth of our community to learn about the processes of theatre. These productions, under Dr. Gambill's guidance serve to teach all aspects of production including terminology,character development, theatrical protocol,costuming, publicity, stage management and technical processes. The experience culminates in the youth creating a show to perform for our community.

Production Pitches include, but are not limited to, a synopsis, overall artistic view including set and costuming, proposed budget, and casting details.

We will be accepting pitches on Feb. 16. If you are interested in bringing your ideas to the Board of Directors or have any questions, please contact Rachel Nipper at georgetowncommunitytheatre@gmail.com to set up your appointment.

Auditions for A.R. Gurney's Love Letters will be held THIS Saturday, January 8th, starting at 10:00 AM in Room 103 of the Cooke Memorial Building on the campus of Georgetown College. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script as well as partner readings. We will be casting up to six different couple pairs to perform on six different nights. All auditionees must be at least 18 years of age. The characters in the play are upper middle age, so auditionees should be older or able and willing to play/look older.

The summer musical is our biggest show of the year. It is always very well attended, and lots of fun to produce. We look forward to hearing from you!

On a different note, thank you so much to everyone who helped this past weekend cleaning out the storage facilities and moving them to our new location. It was alot of work, but together we got it done. We live in a truly great community with selfless people who give of themselves freely, and we feel so blessed to have so many of you in our corner. This coming Saturday, Nov. 13, we need your help. We have been provided storage space in a barn owned by Jack Watkins, and now need bodies and trucks to move our platforms, props, etc., out of two spaces (Cardome and a rented storage unit) into the new space. Many hands make light—and quick—work. Most of you have walked on those platforms and in front of those flats! Now please come and help us take care of them for future shows.

We will meet at Cardome, at the “barn” that is off to the left as you approach the main building, at 10:00 AM Saturday morning. If enough of us jump in, we can get this done in 3-4 hours, maybe less. If you can only give an hour or so, please come help us that much, coming when you can or leaving when you have to; all help is appreciated! Bring friends, family members, even complete strangers who are kind enough to help!

If you have, or have access to, a pickup and/or trailer, please-please-please bring it, as that is what we need to move these platforms. You might bring work gloves also, to avoid splinters.

We have a committee working on weather. The prediction is for 62 degrees, partly cloudy. Should be perfect for what we want to accomplish. And what fun people to hang out with on a Saturday in November!

This is a Holiday fantasy sure to please entire audiences. You wont want to miss this one and the possible appearance of a certain jolly old elf.The neighborhood children have labeled Prunella Crookshank "Cranky" Crookshank - she never smiles, is always shooing them away, and worst of all, doesn't believe in Christmas! When Santa's spectacles are lost and become confused with Prunella's, she wears them, and all of a sudden becomes merry and lovely. But Santa must have his specs back so he can make his Christmas Eve visit to the children and so Prunella returns them, only to find life becoming stale and gloomy again.Then Jingles, a little elf, gives Prunella a smile for Christmas, and once she wears it, her own glasses stay in place and start showing her a bright, happy world about her.

Thank you to everyone who came out to see Honk! We had a huge crowd on Sunday, 173 patrons! When we got the call in the green room that we were going to hold curtain to put out more chairs, we were amazed.

Overall, about 456 people came out to see our little musical this weekend. That is a wonderful turnout and we appreciate all of you choosing to spend your time with us with all the other choices there are in Central Kentucky right now. For those of you who don't know, we have a little thing called the World Equestrian Games going on down the road...

We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed doing it for you!

That being said, this show in every way highlighted why we need our own facility. We had to rehearse in two different venues. During tech week we couldn't get into the venue until 7:30 PM--pretty late for little chickies and froglets! One night we couldn't get in at all. Props and sets had to be moved into storage every night, and we had to rent and borrow sound and light equipment--which also had to be torn down and taken home each night!

Luckily, we have some pretty great people in our family who go way above and beyond the call of duty to make our shows happen, but we cannot continue to grow as a theatre under these conditions. Expect to hear us talking about our capital campaign in the days to come. The board and friends of the theatre will be working hard to raise money to get us our own home. We will be calling on you for your ideas and energy. We hope you will join us!

One of the great things about working on a show is that you get to do things that you might never have done before. Sometimes you do them because you want to, it is something in which you are already skilled. For me, this involves business things like coordinating rehearsal space and volunteers, arranging publicity events, brainstorming fundraising ideas, and taking care of all the money in and out. Sometimes you do it because you have to, because no one else is available. Things like making a costume for a pint sized medieval knight in training, or a wand for a snow sprite, or fantastical set pieces made out of materials you have never used before. It can be intimidating, but it is also very empowering.

I used to be one of those people that would say "I can't do that. You will have to find someone more creative for that." I still think that sometimes, but I now take on some tasks that in the past would have paralyzed me. How did this happen? I think it happened because in theatre, things don't have to be perfect, just good enough. When I was in engineering, most things had very precise tolerances. The specifications for products and machinery were very tight, and had to be met or disaster ensued. But in theatre, if it can look good to an audience, it is good enough.

In other words, in theatre, you can be "ish." Sets need to be "suggestive" of what they represent. Costumes need only look good from a distance, and last only the week of tech rehearsal and performance. Most things can be repaired with duct tape, a hot glue gun, and spray paint. I think the ability to let go of the need for perfection and to strive for a beautiful version of "ish" sets us free and allows the ideas to flow. And once the ideas start flowing, you never know where you might end up!

Honk! opens two weeks from today. Eeeek! We are getting ready in a flurry of activity. Rehearsals are in full swing, costumes are being completed and checked, publicity is being planned and executed, scenery is being built, and tickets are ON SALE NOW!

Thank you to all of the cast, crew, and friends and family of Honk! and GCT who came out to BiWater Farms on Saturday and Bruster's last night. We had a great time and got to hand out lots of fliers and cute rubber ducks. In fact, the rubber ducks are such a hit, we are thinking of ordering more...for the cast!

We have the greatest families and volunteers in the world. It is this support base that has allowed us to grow from an idea in one person's mind 10 years ago into the organization that we are today. So, thank you again.

Please help us spread the word about our upcoming events! How can you help? Here are some insanely easy ways:

1. "Like" us on Facebook.
2. Share our page on Facebook with your friend's list.
3. Use your Facebook status to announce our upcoming events.
4. "Invite" people to our events using the share function on the Facebook events we create.
5. Tell people about our blog or link our blog to your own blog or website.
6. Write about us on your blog!
7. When people ask you what is going on, tell them about our events and invite them to come and participate!

Some easy ways to participate (but require a bit more effort):

1. Email or call us and ask for some fliers to hand out. Then pass them out at your child's soccer/baseball/football game.
2. Pick up some posters from us to hang in a high traffic are that you know about that we may not.
3. Sign up for one of our committees and really start having fun!
4. Audition for a show. There is no better way to get the word out about GCT then getting the community involved.

Last month I was at Lowe's working on something for GCT and the clerk actually said "Georgetown has a community theatre? I didn't know that!" I was AGHAST.

How Much Do You Know About YOUR Theatre?

I got to musing this morning, wondering how much our regular patrons and auditionees really know about Georgetown Community Theatre. I know that my knowledge of the group has come slowly, as I have become more and more involved with it over the last couple of years. So I thought I would share a few tidbits about us that most people may not know.

For example, did you know that we are a 501 c (3) non profit corporation? That means that any donations that you make to Georgetown Community Theatre are tax deductible! (Providing of course, that you don't receive any goods or services in return for your donation.)   We hope in the near future to have an easy way of donating right off of our website, but for the moment donations can be given directly to any board member, or mailed to our P.O. Box (P.O. Box 1485, Georgetown, KY 40324).

Did you know that we have an all volunteer board of directors? Our board is made up of people from the community. We are a working board, meaning all board members are expected to produce shows, and eventually develop the skills and confidence to direct shows. We also have board members who are responsible for publicity, marketing, accounting, and other tasks necessary to running a group such as ours. We meet once a month.

Did you know that we are hoping to begin a capital campaign to build a new theatre?  Building a new theatre will enable us to continue to provide great opportunities to see a show right here in Georgetown. It will also enable us to expand our current educational programs to possibly include theatre workshops, classes, and community outreach. A campaign like this will require the support of all of our friends and of those in the community. If you would like to be a part of this exciting time in our history, you can volunteer to be on a committee. Just send us an email to georgetowncommunitytheatre@gmail.com with your contact information and area of interest.

Do you know how we choose shows for each season? It is usually a combination of brainstorming and research from the board, input from the community, and pitches made by local directors. If you have a show that you would like to direct, and have us produce, you can contact any board member to be put on the agenda for a meeting. You will then be expected to come to the meeting and "pitch" your show. The pitch should include a synopsis of the play, expected run time, cast size and make up (ages, etc.), and expected budget.

That about covers it for today. Please write to us and let us know how we are doing. We love to get feedback from our patrons. We also need your ideas, time and talents, so please, think about volunteering with our group today! Again, our email address is georgetowncommunitytheatre@gmail.com.

To the cast members of Honk! Read through has been moved back to Saturday, August 7th, from 1 to 3 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Georgetown. If you are under 18, please make sure a parent or guardian attends this first rehearsal, we will have paperwork that they will need to fill out as well as several announcements that they will need to hear. We will also be collecting a $30 script deposit. Not all cast members will require a script, and family members can share.

Greater Tuna Cast & Crew

Katy is a Junior at Frankfort High School and is excited about doing her first show with Georgetown Community Theatre. Before joining this show, she has been in productions with Bluegrass Theatre Guild and Frankfort High School, including Nuncrackers, Radio:TBS and The Crucible.

Matt has appeared in two plays from his high school days (Cracked Up Christmas & Amy and the Angel) under the direction of Ron Turner. He had a walk on role in The Producers at Lexington’s Opera House. He also appeared in the Faith Baptist Church’s Christmas Dinner Theatre under the direction of Glenna Metcalf. He made his Georgetown Community Theatre debut in The Music Man under the direction of John Campbell and later appeared in Bull in a China Shop under the direction of Debra Kumar.

Nita appeared in Studio Players’ production of The Last of Mrs.

Lincoln. She is retired and enjoys travel, reading, and target shooting. Greater Tuna is her first production with Georgetown Community Theatre.

Breck Reliford is returning to the stage after a 30 year hiatus. He has appeared in If Man Answers, Don't Drink the Water, and Sugar. Breck works at Toyota Motor manufacturing and enjoys writing, drinking, and gambling...or any combination of such, but not in any particular order.

Trey Savilla (understudy) is a sophomore majoring in theater at Eastern Kentucky University. He has appeared in For Better, Learned Ladies, Cabaret, Harvey, and was stage manager for Candida.

Hunter Smith (Light Board Operator) is pleased to be working on his first Georgetown Community Theatre production. He was the light board operator for the Georgetown performances of The Complete Works of Williams Shakespeare, Abridged and the Midway performances of A Tuna Christmas for the Royal Spring Theatrical Society.

Part II

Joanna is an actor, hair and wig stylist, assistant director, dresser, designer, and costumer. Joanna most recently performed the Arles line in the Royal Spring Theatrical Society production of A Tuna Christmas in Winchester, Midway, and Cynthiana. She has appeared at Studio Players (The Philadelphia Story) and has worked there regularly on production crews (True West-make up; Always, Patsy Cline-lead dresser; The Last of Mrs. Lincoln-wigs and hair styles, A Tuna Christmas-dresser and tree decorator. She recently styled and ran wigs for the Lexington performances of the national tour of the Wizard of Oz. She has appeared in productions of Phantom of the Opry, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Quilters, The Long Christmas Dinner, Virginia Jones and the Curse of the Nergal, Arsenic and Old Lace, and Miracle on 34th Street. She served as assistant director for the GCT productions of Agnes of God and The Wizard of Oz.

Justin has been a regular performer with GCT since 2001. He has performed in every summer show at GCT and many others over the past 9 years. Last summer he played the role of Marcellus Washburn in The Music Man. He is a former student at the University of Kentucky majoring in Music Education and intends to transfer to Georgetown College under the same major next year. He is currently working on several musical projects including playing guitar in the Frankfort-based band Midnight Bedlam.

Debra graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre from West Virginia University in 1980. You’ve seen her in GCT productions in 2006 as Martha Brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace and in The Long Christmas Dinner coaching and co-directing as well as performing the roles of Mother Bayard and Cousin Ermengarde. In 2007, she co-directed our production of Fiddler on the Roof, sang in Celebrate Life, and played the role of Etta Warring, a radio actress in It’s a Wonderful Life, A Radio Play. In 2009 she played Alma in The Music Man, and directed Bull in a China Shop.

Randy most recently dressed the

Arles

line in A Tuna Christmas for Royal Spring Theatrical Society. He appeared in Balagula Theatre’s acclaimed production of The Bald Soprano. A regular at Studio Players, he has appeared in the The Unexpected Guest, Don’t Dress for Dinner, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Shakespeare in Hollywood. He has also performed local productions in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged, Oklahoma!, My Fair Lady, Miracle on 34th Street, Arsenic and Old Lace, Babes in Arms, The Long Christmas Dinner, and makes regular appearances with Bluegrass Mystery Theatre. He has choreographed, designed, built sets for, and/or produced You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Agnes of God, and Tea at Five.

Rick is making a return appearance in Greater Tuna having performed with Georgetown College's Maskrafters while on faculty there 25+ years ago. Other college performances included Antigone, Importance of Being Earnest, Music Man, A Funny Thing Happened…. Rick is a Broker with Rector Hayden Realtors, a public address announcer for Georgetown College sports and KHSAA Sweet Sixteen, and is a former broadcaster and advertising/PR agency manager. He stays busy with five grandchildren, reading, collecting hot sauces, and music. He has been a fan of Greater Tuna scriptwriting for years and felt called to help bring it to life once more for local audiences. He did. He did.

Greater Tuna is Scott’s third directorial effort for Georgetown Community Theatre, having directed You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Agnes of God previously. He has also directed Tea at Five, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged and, most recently, A Tuna Christmas. A regular onstage in the central Kentucky area, he has appeared at Studio Players, Bluegrass Theatre Guild, Fantastical Theatricals, Agency Entertainment and GCT in productions of Deathtrap, Babes in Arms, God’s Favorite, Arsenic and Old Lace, Edwin Drood, Noir Suspicions, The Philadelphia Story, The Unexpected Guest. He is on the Board of Studio Players-Lexington. He has styled and run wigs for the Lexington performances of two national tours—The Wizard of Oz and The Drowsy Chaperone and will be directing Snoopy!-The Musical for Bluegrass Theatre Guild in the summer 2010.

Stage Left of Georgetown announces auditions for

Excalibur! Tales of Young King Arthur

Actors should come prepared to read from portions of the script that will be available that morning.

Non-readers will be asked to repeat portions of the script.

ALL AUDITIONEES should bring a list of conflicts to be included with the audition form.

NO ACTOR will be awarded a lead role who has conflicts during the final week of dress rehearsals.

All lead roles will be cast with understudies who will permanantly take over the role should conflicts arise during dress rehearsal week or if a lead misses more than two regular rehearsals.

Regular Rehearsals will begin March 28 and run ALL Sundays from 4-6pm and ALL Thursdays from 5-6:30 pm (with the exception of April 4 and April 8).

Dress rehearsal week will be Sunday, May 23 3-7pm, Monday May 24 THROUGH Thursday, May 27 5-8pm.

Performances will take place Friday, May 28 and Saturday, May 29 at 7pm and Sunday, May 30 at 3pm in John Hill CHapel.
